FAQ
Who can join?
Any mom of any-aged child (even grown!) in the San Francisco Bay Area, LA County (new!) or Sacramento Valley (new!).
And for everyone who’s waiting for a regional chapter, we just created a global catch-all group.
What? Let's break that down:
Our regional chapters are open to members who
live in or near the region, are moving there, or have left their hearts there; we just ask that conversation remains local where relevant (e.g., if you’ve left the Bay Area for Austin, TX, please don’t post asking for something local like hairdresser recs - because we’ll get all confused.)
identify as female or non-binary and as a ‘mom’ in some capacity (pregnant or trying to conceive (TTC), biological, step, adoptive, foster, or are simply the primary caregiver)
What about dads?
We care about dads and think they deserve a community as awesome as this one. We tried to launch one here: The Daddyhood (SF Bay Area).
However, we had trouble finding motivated moderators who could create community, foster conversation and keep the peace. There was too much daddy drama right from the get go! I admit to being surprised. So it’s on pause.
If a motivated dad thinks he’s got moderator chops and wants to revive and grow it with us, please reach out!
We also considered (from the beginning), making The Mamahood for all parents (and I struggle with this daily in my own mind). However, when asked if the moms felt comfortable including male-identifying parents in the forums, the resounding (and surprisingly passionate) majority said no. So for now, that’s where we’re at! I’m sure there will be evolution and adaptation and new offerings later!
Why just the Bay Area, LA, and Sacramento - and why separated?
We like to keep the conversation as local as possible to create community around a physical and geographical home base - and to facilitate 'real-life' connections via local activities, events, meet-ups, workshops, and interactions with local businesses and resources.
I've got an awesome product or service that more moms need to know about. How do I reach your audience?
If you think our community(ies) would love something you've created, please reach out to me (Heather Anderson) and my Mamahood team at partners@themamahood.co and we'll see what we can do together!
You can read more about working with us here too.
Or you can jump on a discovery call with me! I love a good brainstorm.
We keep the video off too, so feel welcome to walk the dog or wear PJs while we figure out if we can help each other,
If you're a good fit, we’ll start by making you discoverable on The M List - our directory of mom-recommended products and services.
